Learn How to Photograph from a Boat / Kayak
Join professional photographer Greg Disch in Fayetteville, AR at Lake Sequoyah. Greg will have stable fishing kayaks with room for camera gear and comfortable seats that we’ll rotate on, if needed. You’re also welcome to bring your own kayak or boat. Greg will cover how to protect your camera gear and what he has found as the best technique to photograph from a kayak, including the settings for sharp images from a moving boat.
This is intended for those who have never kayaked before, no experience needed. Greg will cover basic kayaking and how to get in and out of the kayaks, which is the most difficult part. Kayak photography is very relaxing and a great way to get close to wildlife. Most wildlife subjects do no have predators that come from the water and they are less concerned with a slow moving kayak. Photographing on still water is a completely different experience than trying to take photos on a rushing river.
We will meet at 10am at the Lake Sequoyah boat ramp (see map & address below).
Suggested gear: camera, a selection of wide-angle and telephoto lenses, a tripod for shore shots, and a waterproof case or bag is always a great idea (Greg will have Pelican cases available, too.). Wear comfortable, weather-appropriate clothing and shoes that can get wet.
About the Kayaks
Greg will provide all the equipment including paddles, life jackets, safety gear, and waterproof equipment cases for your camera. Our goal is photography, we will take it slow and easy.
Greg has 3 Jackson Yupik and 2 Jackson Bite kayaks that we will use. Jackson Kayaks are known for having some of the most comfortable seats and are Made in America built in Sparta Tennessee.

March 18, 2025
7:00 pm - 8:00 pm
Join us Tuesday, Mar. 18, 2025, when we will meet to photograph the newly opened Upper Ramble – a civic space linking cultural & natural attractions – in Fayetteville, AR.
We will meet at 7PM at the SW corner of Dickson St & West Ave (across the street from the Walton Arts Center), and capture photos of this civic space, described as a key element of Fayetteville’s Cultural Arts Corridor linking cultural and natural attractions with the downtown area & entertainment district. This is a fun casual event, an opportunity to meet other photographers (trade ideas and learn from each other), and a chance to capture some great shots in downtown Fayetteville as the sun sets around 7:30PM.
All levels of photographers can enjoy this as it gives you a chance to hone your craft and learn how to take your photography to the next level. Hope to see you there!
