The oldest event in the PSNWA calendar is Dogwood Canyon, Northeast of Eureka Springs on the Arkansas and Missouri border.

The first excursion was 2003 and every two years members have returned for this chartered tour featuring a PSNWA-only tram ride. Dogwood canyon is a private park featuring shear sides with seven waterfalls, wildlife including Elk, an artisan-fed stream with trout, a paved walking trail through the center of the canyon, a hand-built Amish covered bridge, and limestone-lined landscapes that make Dogwood Canyon a very unique nature photo opportunity.

Come join us for a photo walk in Van Winkle hollow at Hobbs State Park.  This  event is part of our annual series of events to be held in conjunction with the Park.  Steve Chyrchel, one of the Park Rangers will meet us to help us understand more about the area and the mission of the park.  This will be a leisurely outing with paved trails and short distances.  It is a pretty little spot to enjoy a morning.

On Friday Oct. 7 PSNWA will host an Open House and Ribbon cutting for the new location. On display will be the top images from the PSNWA Fall Fair Photography Competition. Hope to see you there! • Insects at Hobbs State Park
     September 24, 2016
     2:00 pm - 5:30 pm
Insects at Hobbs State Park are easy to spot and photograph thanks to the ponds directly adjacent to the Conservation Center. Come and join us in the classroom for a discussion of insect photography, and then walk outside to test your new photographic skills.
We are fortunate to have Austin Jones, President Entomology Assoc of Arkansas, and PSNWA member Bob Thomas giving instruction. Austin conducts insect research at Hobbs and Bob is one of the best known dragonfly photographers in the nation.

Cloudless Sulpher

  • To be successful you will need a macro lens, or a medium telephoto lens able to focus close enough to fill your viewfinder with a flower and an insect or two. If you have one, a monopod may be useful to help steady the camera and lens.
  • Just for fun, you may also want to review the Arkansas Butterfly Checklist and see how many you can photograph during the event.

PSNWA and Hobbs State Park formed a partnership in 2015 to bring photographic education to the park grounds, and “Insect Photography”, is one of several events created to combine classroom education with practical, photographic experience.

Read more about the partnership here.

This event is free and open to the public; PSNWA Member and Guest Registration is available as a courtesy reminder for the event.
