[info_box]We have been notified that the Core of Engineers, while doing an inspection in anticipation of this event, have determined the second floor cement in the tower is collapsing onto the first floor. The tower has been deemed no longer fit to be entered. We will not have access within the fence. However we will continue with the session using other ruins on the site. Since this will now be an all outdoor session it has been moved earlier in the day to take advantage of the morning light.[/info_box] [image_frame style=”framed” title = “Monte Ne” align=”right” width=”250″ height=”375″][/image_frame]Join us for a Fashion/Glamour session at the famed ruins of Monte Ne. The tower and foundation of the lodge and a few other walls were the only portion of the one time resort left above water level after the flooding of Beaver lake. A popular hang out for teens the abandoned tower became known for its wall to wall graffiti. Concerns for safety led the Corp of Engineers to place a chain-link fence around the tower to keep visitors out.

There is a $15 fee to assist with wardrobe and other costs associated with this session. Photographers are also asked to share images taken at the session with the models through the PSNWA SmugMug account and tips for the models time are customary but not mandatory.

  • Total Eclipse
     August 21, 2017
     9:00 am - 3:00 pm

Join PSNWA members as we gather in Marshall, Mo., to photograph the total solar eclipse on Aug. 21. This event is rare in that it is cutting across the central U.S. – and central Missouri – making it accessible to most of the country. We will be traveling to the heart of the eclipse path to view the eclipse.

We’ll meet early in Marshall, Mo., at the Great Circle (Main Campus) site to view the eclipse. The eclipse is scheduled to start at 11:43 a.m. CDT, with the peak hitting about 1:10 p.m. and lasting 2 minutes and 40 seconds before ending around 2:40 p.m. The city of Marshall is asking participants to be at their designated locations by 10 a.m. (We’ll skip breakfast at the restaurant as previously announced.)

IMPORTANT: You WILL need a special filter to photograph the eclipse. Attempting to photograph the eclipse without a special filter or special filter paper will result in significant damage to your lens and camera! You also will need proper eyewear to view the eclipse or a pinhole viewer.

PSNWA IS NOT RESPONSIBLE OR LIABLE FOR ANY PHYSICAL DAMAGE OR DAMAGE TO CAMERA EQUIPMENT DUE TO LACK OF USING THE PROPER FILTERS OR EYE PROTECTION.

You will need to purchase your own parking pass, which reserves a spot on campus. This must be done BEFORE the event, and the sooner the better, as spots are selling out quickly. You may purchase a pass ($20 per vehicle) at the link here: https://www.eventbrite.com/o/marshall-mo-solar-eclipse-committee-13484823602

     7:00 pm - 11:55 pm

Join fellow PSNWA members as we photograph the Milky Way and stars rising over the Kings River Falls. We will meet at 7:00 P.M. at the Walmart Neighborhood Market on the SE corner of Hwy 412 East and Butterfield Coach in Springdale and travel together to ensure everyone can find the location. The parking area at the destination is small, so we will want to carpool. There is also about a one mile easy hike from the parking area to the falls on the river. The hike in during the last part of the day should allow us to get in and get set up with ease. The Milky Way should be straight up in the southern sky at 10:00 P.M. that evening, so it may not even be an all-nighter. You should plan to have ample headlamps or flashlights for the trek out however, and plenty of bug spray.

If you have not done night photography before but are interested, come on out, we can help you get started, its not that hard.

A camera, tripod, wide angle lens are essentials, and cable release would be recommended.
