Take control of your photography. Photographer Melissa Jones will help you go beyond your camera’s Auto mode and master the fundamentals of photography using a Nikon DSLR camera. With in-depth explanations of each topic followed by hands-on demonstrations, you’ll learn the skills to take your photography to the next level, no matter what type of Nikon camera you use.
Join Melissa Jones for a one-day workshop to get hands-on instruction on your camera. The workshop will include an outdoor photo shoot, weather permitting, on the Bentonville Square, as well as some work in studio.

Astro-Photography (Image Capture Focus) with Cleeo Wright
Taking shots of the night sky after sunset or during early sunrise can pose a challenge to any photographer but there are techniques that can make a difference in the image processing phase. Concepts covered for beginners and intermediate levels
Cleeo Wright, our guest instructor, will provide an overview of tools, creative options, and special considerations involved in image processing of photographs taken under low-light conditions.
Topics include:
Correcting white balance
Brightening shadows
Sharpening and noise reduction
Bring your computer and memory cards to implement the tips individually or as a class.

Learning how to make Cyanotype prints. Cyanotype is alternative process using iron salts and uv light that results in blue prints which can then also be toned other colors. The instructor for the workshop is Helen Maringer.
Helen Maringer is a fine art photographer and designer based in Fayetteville, AR. She studied Fine Art Photography at the Santa Fe University of Art and Design. Cyanotype is her favorite alternative photographic process because of their accessibility and malleability. Participants will learn how to mix chemistry, coat paper and fabric, as well as print and tone cyanotype photos.
The workshop fee is $30 for PSNWA members and $45 for guests.

Okay Darkroom Fans, dust off your negatives and grab your film camera as the PSNWA Community Darkroom is now open.
Constructed during the Winter of 2016-17; its entire build and equipment came through donations – it needs only you to enjoy service.
Tells us what instruction you would like, what your ambitions are – and we will craft the workshop to your needs.
- Film development using Kodak’s D-76
- Paper processing using Kodak’s Dektol
- Darkroom procedure – including mixing chemicals
You need to supply or borrow a film camera and 35mm or 120 roll film (be sure your film is NOT C-41 development – often disguised as B&W chemically developed film). 8×10 B&W paper will be supplied for this class. You may also bring your own negatives to be processed.

Low-light (Night) and Moonlight Photography (Image Capture Focus) with Cleeo Wright
Taking shots of the night sky after sunset or during early sunrise can pose a challenge to any photographer but there are techniques that can make a difference. Cleo Wright, our guest instructor, will provide an overview of tools, creative options, and special considerations involved in shooting with a DSLR camera at night or in low-light conditions. We will cover exposure decisions such as choice of aperture/shutter speed and understand how they impact depth of field as well as the camera’s ability to freeze motion.
Topics include:
Understanding how low light affects exposure, shutter speed, color temperature
Preparing for a low-light shoot
Shooting in dimly lit rooms
Shooting in the shade
Focusing in low light
Light painting
Manipulating long shutter speeds
Correcting white balance
Brightening shadows
Sharpening and noise reduction
Bring your camera and flash for an opportunity to apply the techniques after class if time permits walking through downtown Bentonville.
