If you’ve ever wanted to know how to become a Judge for PSNWA Print Competitions or maybe you’ve just wanted to understand what judges are looking for when they determine the top photographs in a competition, then you need to take this class.

We will explore the 5 criteria used for judging a print competition, those include Impact, Subject Matter/Creativity, Composition, Technical Mastery, & Print Presentation. Once you understand what each of these areas involve then you will become a better photographer. We will also explore the many different types of competitions that occur every year and are great learning tools for your Photography Toolbox.

Saturday, March 16, 2019, opening session at 2:30 PM, photo class at 3:30 PM
at Hobbs State Park Visitor Center
Opening session featured photographer: Jay Stout – PSNWA Member since 2011

I’ve been interested in photography ever since I was a young Soldier stationed in Germany in 1978. After retiring from a 34-year career in the military, I decided to move back to my hometown, Fayetteville, AR and decided to pursue my interest in photography and make it more than just a hobby.
My interests in photography include Wildlife, Landscape, Weather, & Architecture/Historical Buildings but I like to experiment in all other areas and have learned from some great photographers.
Although I’m still new at this, I’ve been the featured photographer in Our Ozarks magazine and published in Nature Photographer magazine. There’s something about wildlife in its natural habitat that is very interesting to me as well as capturing that particular moment during a sunset when the colors and beauty are only available for about 5 minutes, those are the photographs that fuel my passion. – Just Take The Shot!!

Basic Nature Photography Class:
A professional from the Photographic Society of NW Arkansas will lecture on the basics of how
to capture nature with a camera. Learn about the fundamentals of proper exposure, tips and
techniques for capturing different subjects. The last part of the class will be spent outside
practicing and answering questions.
What to Bring if you can:
– Camera
– Tripod (optional)
– Remote release (optional)

While digital devices make photography today easier and faster, they can also make things more difficult if they are not all working together. Are those devices all speaking the same language, is the red color on my camera, the same red color to my printer? If not, you might want to learn a little about how to implement a color managed work flow into your photography.

Do you have problems with color casts on your photos, prints that are too dark or simply don’t look like the file on your monitor? Your problem may be a lack of color standards in your photo workflow. There are methods to make the camera, monitor and printer all speak the same language, with regard to color.

This class will discuss how to get your photographic devices, camera, monitor and printer all on the same page and in the end, make your output closer to your artistic vision.

Come join us at the studio as Tim shows us how to calibrate your computer monitor and printers.
