Join photographer Tim Johnson for a discussion on Nature Photography
Description:
Nature photography is the focus of the presentation. The presentation will focus on general landscape photography, including waterfalls. Macro photography, primarily of flowers and bugs,  wildlife photography with emphasis on birds and just for good measure, I plan to throw in a little nighttime photography and I think we have the major areas covered.  Discussion of each will include the techniques and equipment required.  Given the wide variety of topics to photograph, I can suggest some places to go in the local area to practice.  Lots of photos will be on display and I hope you bring any questions you may have about your photography journey, or how you might start a new area of exploration or room for expansion of this lifelong hobby.  While many folks are satisified with cell phone photograohy, we will focus on the use of either DSLR or Mirrorless cameras during this presentation.  If you are looking to move towards a dedicated camera body, the discussion may be useful for when you reach that fork in the road.
Topics:
Learn about other aspects of nature photography
Learn about techniques for successful photo outings in the field
Hints about equipment that will make you a more successful nature photographer
Learn about locations in the area that provide good opportunities for subjects to photograph
Biography:
Tim Johnson lives in NW Arkansas and has been involved in photography for over 20 years.  While spending a large amount of time photographing wildlife, especially birds, any type of nature photography will catch his interest.  Tim has travelled across the country taking photos in many of the national parks, and last year had the opportunity to spend a week in the remote wilderness of the Wrangell-St. Elias National Park in southeast Alaska.  When not occupied taking photos, Tim also dabbles in restoration with native plants in the many gardens and native areas around his home.

     10:00 am - 11:30 am

Join photographer Tom Overbey for a discussion on Photoframes, Prints and Photobooks.

If you spend some time with Greg Disch, he might ask you what you want to do with your images.  If you have not figured it out, your answer will drift off.  None of us can print all of our images that we like.  Or hang them.
Come learn some of the simple (and not so simple) things you can do to enjoy the end results of your hours of fun and work.  We will learn at least three different solutions that may appeal to you.

One will be a hands-on creation of a “photobook” from start to finish using the Book module in Lightroom and publishing with Blurb.  Lots of do’s and don’ts from the school of hard knocks.  We will create a book within Lightroom, edit it, make cover and title pages, rearrange photos and pages, and add artistic interest.

This is a demonstration by the speaker; attendees will not need their computers.  Multiple references for additional learning will be provided.

  •  August 3, 2024
     6:00 pm - 11:55 pm

Join other PSNWA members for an Astrophotography class, that will explain how to capture Milky Way Photographs (Star Points) and Star Trails using several techniques. We will discuss the equipment needed for Astrophotography, tools to help plan the shoot, locate the Milky Way, etc.

We will meet at Whole Hog Cafe in Fayetteville at 6:00 pm for the class. Come early to order food, then the class will start around 6:00pm.  Then after the class, if you want to go practice we will drive out to probably Ponca to practice (weather permitting).

For the shoot, a camera, tripod, wide angle lens are essentials, and cable release would be recommended.

Equipment:

  • camera (if you have crop and full frame, the full frame will likely perform better)
  • wide angle / wide aperture lens – wide angle being 24 mm focal length or lower and widest aperture 2.8 f stop or lower is better, but if you only have a 3.5 f or 4 f , then you can just raise the ISO
  • tripod
  • cable release if you have one, if you do not, you can just use the 2 second timer on the camera
  • flashlight (since it will be dark)
