Promoting the Art and Science, of photography, throughout Northwest Arkansas. That is more than a tag line for PSNWA, it is also the mission statement that drives this dynamic non-profit organization of photographers. We are professionals as well as those who have just picked up a camera for the first time. The majority of the over 200 members live in the Northwest corner of Arkansas, but amongst the members are those who reside outside our region and indeed outside the state. More than geographic proximity, it is a love of photography in all its forms that ties together the members of the Photographic Society of Northwest Arkansas.
From the beginning we set out to create a Photographic Society for Northwest Arkansas that would be a community for Photographers of any level to meet, learn, and enjoy.
John Baltz – Founder
PSNWA became a nonprofit corporation when Articles of Incorporation were filed with the Arkansas Secretary of State in 2002 by ten professional photographers and friends who saw the need for a photographic society in the growing Northwest Arkansas region. Within Northwest Arkansas lie the home offices for such well known businesses as Wal-Mart, Tyson Foods, JB Hunt, and others, along with being home to the University of Arkansas. By 2000 the population and economic growth had transformed the NWA region into a demographic area with a population capable of supporting a thriving photographic society.
For the past decade the members of PSNWA have worked hard to grow the Society. Education, community involvement, and developing friendships have been the goals of PSNWA since inception. In 2007 PSNWA moved into a facility on Emma Ave. in Springdale with a gallery and studios. In 2016 the gallery and studio was moved to the the Bentonville square, next to the 21C Hotel and gallery, and near the trail head to Crystal Bridges Museum of Modern Art. Recently PSNWA began offering more advanced learning opportunities with the development of the workshop program.
Looking forward members will see more new classes, workshops and events. 2011 saw the introduction of division (Group) leaders to organize activities concentrating on specific genre of photography. PSNWA special interest divisions include Nature, Professional, Fashion/Glamour Model, Fine Art and Community Service. These division directors help plan events to ensure all members interests are represented as best possible.
PSNWA is an all-volunteer organization. It takes members willing to give freely of their time and talents to keep PSNWA active and growing. You may wish to volunteer to help on a committee, run for election as a board member, or even lead a field trip. Don’t be bashful, without the efforts of members who are just like you there would be no PSNWA! You can contact PSNWA at any time to offer your assistance or ask for more information.
