Spring in the Ozarks is prime time for photographing waterfalls. Arkansas is blessed with some rugged terrain, mix in some spring rains and we have the making of some spectacular waterfalls. This year we are planning to focus on easy access and more falls with regard to total number, versus the day long hike to see one spectacle. We’ll be headed to Ben Hur, Ar in the Richland Creek Wilderness, along Falling Water Creek, for possible stops at six different waterfalls. Some of these are easily viewed from the car alongside the road, a few others require an medium, short hike, of about a mile roundtrip. The ease of possibly acquiring several
waterfalls so close together will require an early departure, as it will take about 2 ½ hours to get to Ben Hur.
We’ll plan to carpool, meeting at the Walmart Neighborhood Market on the SE corner to Hwy 412 East and Butterfield Coach Rd, in Springdale at 6 AM. Come prepared with a lunch and beverages along with your photo gear, for making a long day of exploring. In addition to waterfalls, there are many other interesting points along the way that may also provide some diversion. Don’t forget the bug spray.
The falls on the schedule: Falling Water Falls, Horsetail Falls, Intersection Falls, Six Finger Falls, Fuzzybutt Falls, and Keefe Falls. (for more info see pages 86-93 of Arkansas Waterfalls, Second edition, by Tim Ernst)
