August 12, 2023 - August 13, 2023
7:00 pm - 1:00 am
Join us for an evening of shooting the Perseids Meteor Shower
Goal: The Perseids meteor shower peaks August 12th thru 13th with an average of 50-75 meteor’s per hour. Blue hour begins about 8:27pm on the 12th. We will arrive so that we can capture images of the barn during blue hour so that you can blend later photos of the meteors. While out main goal for the evening will be capturing the the meteor’s, this is also optimal location for shooting the Milky Way with the galactic center rising about 9:48pm. Moonrise is not until 3:36am on the 13th with only a sliver at 5.1% so if we have clear skies we will have optimal viewing for the meteors.
Meet and carpool from East Springdale Walmart Neighborhood Market at 6:45 PM Saturday evening. We will leave at 7pm to head to Boxley Valley.
Sunset on Saturday, August 12, 2023 is at 8:10 PM.
To facilitate travel, we will car pool from the Walmart Neighborhood Market at 7 PM. The Neighborhood market is on the corner of Hwy 412 (East Robinson Rd) and Butterfield Coach Road on the east side of Springdale. We typically meet in the NW corner of the parking lot. - wide angle lens
- tripod
- bug spray
- water for trip
Optional items that may be useful:
- remote camera release

The ideal lens would be 14 to 16 mm, f2.8 to f4.0.
A camera body that has a manual mode so that you can adjust the shutter, ISO, and aperture independently would give you the best opportunity, but bring whatever you have available and we’ll make the best of an evening in the outdoors.
